Donna and Jazz made the 6 hour trip to Hanford, California
for their third WEG qualifier. The temperature neared 100 degrees every day,
so warming up without risking heat exhaustion was really tricky. Donna’s
groom Ernesto Magana was stationed just outside the practice ring and helped
cool Jazz with frequent ice water/alcohal sponging. Jazz was a little flat
in the Grand Prix. He received a 66.5%, his best score to date, but once again
finished third, this time to Jeremy Steinburg on Parocco and Nicole Perry
on Rubino. While the other horses worked on Friday, Jazz just went for little
strolls, once in the morning, once when in late afternoon when the sun was
low. The result: a much fresher horse and a convincing victory in the Grand
Prix Special with 67.8%. Donna and Jazz are now standing 15th in the national
Grand Prix rankings with one more selection trial to go.
