CDS Chapter Fall Show. Del Mar, CA, Jan. 26-27, 2009
Fox
Run was well represented at the San Diego Chapter Show. Skyler Evans showed
Steve Borders' Westphalian gelding Exemplar in first level and won both her
classes with scores over 70%. Skyler and "Eddie" also won the high
score amateur award for the whole show! An excellent result for a horse who
has also won on the flat and over fences as a pre-green hunter. For the last
six months, Jenni Martin McAllister, well known Grand Prix jumper rider, has
been rehabilitating Donna's former Intermediate I horse Mondeo. At the chapter
show, she swapped tack and rode Mondeo in third level test 2. She placed third
with a 64% the first day, then tied for first
the
second day with the same score. Mondeo and Jenni would have scored even higher
if his noseband hadn't snapped three movements before the end of Sunday's
test. Donna rode Zidane in his last training level test. Zidane placed second
and is now the highest scoring IALHA horse at training level in the country.
Veloz came in second with a 66.8% at third level test three, then presented
his winning third level freestyle again in preparation for the IALHA Championship
Show in Texas Oct. 10-15. Veloz will also be presented as a breeding stallion
in Ft. Worth.
Donna
had asked chapter members to bring in their old saddle pads to be donated
to Father John Donald, a Jesuit missionary in Honduras. Many of Father John's
parishioners depend on horses, mules, or donkeys for transportation and use
in the fields. Their harnesses and saddles are homemade, often ill fitting,
and prone to causing sores. When the sores become infected, there is no veterinary
care available, so frequently the animals are lost and their owners further
impoverished. The San Diego chapter members were outstanding in their generosity,
donating so many pads Donna had to take them home by the truckload. In all
over 150 pads will be making their way to Honduras where they will be greatly
appreciated.
